  1. This poem was interesting. It makes a lot more sense imagining the other man as death. On one hand, its courageous of him to confront death so nonchalantly, going to the barber shop and getting dressed up in preparation. But on the other hand, he gives up on his family. He doesn't bother going home and saying goodbye. So while he faces death with no fear, it almost seems selfish.

  2. This poem is really weird. I really don't know what to think about it. I'm not sure but i think that frank isn't that afraid of dieing instead he just wants to get it over. Thus him telling it as if he is going to the barber shop.

  3. I think this poem is talking about how the speaker knows that he is going to die. When the speaker goes into the barber shop and closes his eyes he has a flash back of all of the things that happened in his life. I do not understand the meaning of the special lotion, and all of the men lining up near the barber chair.

  4. I really liked Mr. Hill's interpretation of this poem about how the guy knows death is coming for him and he just goes to the barber in preparation. It really makes you think about how you would react if you knew that your own death was coming.

  5. I was very confused when I heard this poem. I didnt understand why the poem was called Everybody who is dead if it was talking about getting a haircut. I understood it more when Mr. Hill implied that he is getting ready to meet death. This author is very interesting.com

  6. For some reason I really like this poem. I usually am not into darker poetry, I am more a fan of love poems and happy poems, but I really like the way this one is written. When I read it again on my own, I found that I admire the man in this poem. He is very brave because he doesn't hide from death (if that really is the other man); instead he goes after it and accepts what is coming. I kind of related it to the end of Harry Potter when Harry accepts the fact that he might actually die when he fights Voldemort. It was a very interesting poem after all.

  7. I like this poem because it is interesting. The man sounds like he is ready for death to talk him. He knows that it is his time. He doesn't need to say goodbye to his wife and children. Most people would be scared but he is upfront with his bravery.

  8. I did NOT like this poem. It didn't make sense to me. What's up with the Old Men asking for lotion? Why include the memory of lying on the rock naked as a young boy? Does a person that is getting stalked by a Dead Man really go to a Barbershop... Dressed in a nice shit and a suit coat? He doesn't even explain who the dead man who is stalking him could be. I just didn't think this Poem was all that good. it was awkward, odd, and confusing... but then again, that's what the author was known for.

  9. this poem was kind of weird but interesting. he basically is explaining that he could not live without his wife or kids. i particularly liked the tone of the poem. it suits the words very well. it really got to me because i am a huge person who majorly respects people who are not scared to die. he has shown that without is family he is not afraid of death.

  10. I think it's creative how the other man mentioned in the poem can also be considered death. I didn't think about it until someone else made the comparison, but it does make more sense to say "when a man knows death/ is looking for him." This would also justify some of his actions. He doesn't wait for death, he "puts on a clean shirt" and greets it.

  11. I thought it was a really weird poem but it was interesting, at first before Mr. Hill suggested it was death that was the man that was trying to find him, I was thinking almost that he meant it to interpret as there actually was another man trying to find him and kill him. But it makes more sense that the other man is actually death coming to get him.

  12. I really didn't understand the poem at first. Then after reading it a few times it started making sense. It has sort of a weird vibe to it. Somewhat like that awkward feeling like you don't know what kind of opinion to form about it. I like the theme of the poem. He does not portray death as a scary thing and I have a lot of respect for people who are not afraid of death. Its a fact of life, we all die someday.

  13. I think that this is a very sad poem. The man knows that death is coming and wants to look his best for when he dies. The speaker states, "when a man knows another man is looking for him he doesn't hide." This matter of fact statement conveys the helplessness that we feel that we can't escape death, it is imminent. He "shuts his eyes remembers himself as a boy." Looking back on our lives usually happen right before we die. We see our life flash before our eyes. See what could have been or what we shouldn't have done.

  14. Vincent raises some really good questions here--why would he be remembering his youth? Why that image? What kind of feel does it have? What does it mean to be dressing up for the man?

These images are not all "surreal"(like the old men, the special lotion), but they do make "leaps," a term used to describe jumps in visual logic that make us look hard for associations--jumps that are more emotional than they are logical, in other words.

  15. I like how this poem makes death look peaceful. For example, the man puts his kids to bed and goes and gets a shave. The poem has a dark undertone.
