"Driving toward the Lac Qui Parle River," Robert Bly

  1. I like in the second stanza how Bly says that the solitude of the night was penetrated by the crickets. It really helps me visualize the environment of the poem.

  2. At firs this poem seemed to lose me. I then realized at the end it was about his observations while on a road trip in Minnesota. The line "The stubble field catches the last growth of sun." really paints an image in my mind. I can perfectly see the sun just over these fields, with the beautiful view. I also notice how he refers to the moon more than once. He must be really interested in the full moon and what it represents.
