At first, this poem was kind of hard for me to get into. But I really liked this line: " For this we live a thousand years; For this we love, and we live because we love, we are not Inside a bottle, thank goodness!" It repeats the main idea of "for this" so we notice it, and then we see the humor Mr. Hill kept talking about when he says thank goodness we don't live in a bottle. I think this poem is pretty good, actually.
This poem makes absolutely no sense, but I think that's what I like about it. For example: "I love you as a kid searches for a goat." The poems this last week were all pretty unusual and interesting, and I like that you can let your imagination run with them. I also really like being able to listen to the poem off the poetry foundation website, because you can close your eyes and picture what is happening.
I think that the speaker in this poem is trying to tell the person that he loves, that they are everything to him. Also, that he can not live without her because she means so much to him.
Because the speaker cares so much for his love, he's willing to go to any length to be there for her. The example of the examples are so random, but they're clever, and that's what I love about them. My favorite is "I believe that you are trustworthy as a sidewalk which leads me to the place where I again think of you, a new harmony of thoughts" because it's showing how much he really cares that he'll always being looking after and taking care and trusting her.
This poem is obviously a love poem. The way the speaker talks about his love and how much he cares about his love makes the poem have more meaning. At times it was confusing but I got the just of it
This poem is very sweet. I love poems like this that you can tell are about someone special in their life. I like all the metaphors and similies that the author compares his love to. I also like how the speaker says "I believe you are trustworthy as the sidewalk which leads me to the place where I again think of you". That line shows that the author really loves this person and is almost obsessive of him/her. I really like this poem.
I love this poem starts out. "I love you as a sheriff searches for a walnut." It's just random, but he goes on to justify it. When you read it a second time, you realize that it's saying something so deep.
This is probably one of the deeper poems about love I have read. Koch really emphasizes his love through a variety of meaningful metaphors that come together to portray a strong sense of affection. I really enjoyed the beginning line "I love you as a sheriff searches for a walnut That will solve a murder case unsolved for years" because it really emphasizes that love as something else.
I'd say this is quite the complex poem, even though just reading it through you wouldn't think so. But I feel like every line in this poem is a litle example that represents something sooo much bigger and more meaningful. For example, when it says, "I love you as a kid searches for a goat.." maybe that is expressing that the way he feels when he loves her is a childlike feeling of searching for something possibly something difficult to find. Or it could be saying that as some random kid is going on with his everyday weird things he does, he doesn't even notice because all he does while all these things are happening is love her.
