Keeping Things Whole
In a field
I am the absence
of field.
This is
always the case.
Wherever I am
I am what is missing.
When I walk
I part the air
and always
the air moves in
to fill the spaces
where my body's been.
We all have reasons
for moving.
I move
to keep things whole.
- Mark Strand
Simple. Brings purpose to little things. 8/10
ReplyDeleteTo me this poem appears to be somewhat depressing and lonely. Mark Strand writes about always being the thing missing and even parting the air which makes me feel that he thinks he is not compatible with the earth itself.
ReplyDeleteOh, great point about not being "compatible" with the earth. There is a sort of muted alienation in this poem, isolation.
